Play Golf in 2021

X

Many changes occurred for everyone in 2020. Who would have known that golf rounds and the popularity of the game needed a global pandemic in order to gain momentum?

I can’t believe that last year at this time the world shut down and The Players Championship halted play after the first round. One year later, and this past weekend The Players Championship completed all four rounds and with limited fans in attendance.

Depending on where you lived within the Country last year in March some golf courses were permitted to be open, some closed because of the pandemic and some closed do to snow and weather conditions. The game through the springs months was able to prove that it could be played and in a safe manner. How many rounds did you play last year, and do you think you will play the same, more or less in 2021?

Last season was my highest round count in the last five years. Living in Minnesota it is tough to play and it's tough to play in every month of the year unless you travel. Last season I recorded 72 rounds and played in every month but January. 15 of these rounds were played away from Minnesota in February & March, taking a kid to college in August and then a visit to Pinehurst in October. Then last fall with Enger Park re opening for a weekend in November and then the courses staying opening down in and around the twin cities I was able to get in 8 more rounds and into December. A normal and average year for me is around 50 rounds, but last year I had to look back and not only reflect on the extra rounds but also the opportunity to play in 2020 when many other sports were not able to.

All golfers moving into 2021, what’s your goal for a round count this year? I have no chance at beating last years numbers and will look forward to my average of 50. If our season starts early and ends late here in Minnesota maybe I will get to 60. By setting up some yearly round goals, practice goals, new equipment purchases mixed in with some coaching & lessons not only do you have the opportunity to enjoy the game in the year ahead but also to improve your game in the year ahead. Play Golf in 2021 & most of all enjoy the opportunity to play this great game and remember after the year we all just went through, it’s just a game.
